Should you Learn the Acoustic Guitar Online?
March 7th, 2010 | Acoustic Musical Instruments, Guitars
Learning to play the guitar is a really good way to express your personal creativity and your love for music. The best way to learn guitar, however, is through lessons. There are quite a few different ways for a person to get lessons on playing guitar, especially online. The trick here though, is that you will need to have a sharp eye and pay attention to where these lessons are coming from to be sure that you are being given legitimate lessons. In general, if a website tries to pitch that it can have you playing like a pro in just a short period of time, it likely is not legitimate.
Just like learning anything else, learning to play better and faster will take a lot of time and effort on your part, as there are no real short cuts. Getting your lessons from someone you know, or paying a person for one on one lessons in person are your best bets. Online lessons can be used to help start you on the basics and teach proper finger movement, but it can still be very hard to understand some of the concepts and ideas from a person talking and teaching through a video.
Acoustic guitar lessons that are given online do not take into account a students individual weaknesses and strengths. Every person is different, and when you get your guitar lessons in person, you will be more likely to better connect with your teacher, who will likely note these strengths and weaknesses. Thus your chances of properly learning to play the guitar are greater. Later on, lessons can become quite complicated, especially as you progress so it is quite important for you to take lessons from someone with experience, and great patience. Guitar lessons online can become rapidly frustrating, especially during a complicated song.
If you have truly decided that you want to start taking guitar lessons, then you must also be passionate about learning about the instrument you will play, not just how to play it. Learning to play the guitar is something that will take a lot of time and a lot of practice if you want to be good at it. Guitar lessons can be quite expensive as well, so you really truly have to want to learn and play. You really have to have a passion for it.
If you make the decision to choose an online course to learn to play the acoustic guitar make sure to fully research them. You want to make sure that the lessons that they provide will be helpful to you, and cover information that you need to learn. Check that the lessons are paced well, and that as you gain the skills through the course they will build off what they have already taught as you learn more advanced skills. Make sure that the online lessons contain videos that clearly explain how you should position your fingers and hold your body, written directions, and you will want to make sure that there is some contact information for the person who is responsible for the lessons in the chance that you need to have something clarified that you cannot find in the instructions.
