Learning the Acoustic Guitar

guitarsWhen learning how to properly play the acoustic guitar, versatility is a major goal that you should work towards as best as you can. It is very important to learn all of the different ways you can play the various chords.

By learning the different chords that you can play through the placement of your fingers you will be shown a whole new world. Not only this, but you will find that soon you will be able to accompany other musicians much better. It would also benefit you in the future in that you might actually one day begin writing your own music to learn and play.

But along with learning different positions for playing the various chords on an acoustic guitar you need to dedicate time each week to practicing your skills. Ideally when it comes to you wanting to learn to play acoustic guitar well spend around ½ hour each day every day of the week on your practice.

Not only will regular practice ensure that your fingers are kept in the right condition for playing but you will train your ears to. The more you are able to develop your ear for music then this will help in improving the way in which you play. Plus in no time at all you may find yourself being able to improvise when playing a certain piece of music or find it much easier to learn a new piece that you have only just heard.
You don't have to actually play to practice chords, so if you find yourself with some extra time on your hands but you can't make noise, practice where you place your fingers to play chords. Even though you are just using the one hand, this is a valuable method of practice as it builds muscle memory and familiarity with the positions you need to know to play.

Don't be afraid to mix things up when you are learning your chords, as you start picking up the simpler open chords at first throw in some major chords too. Practice chords like F Major as you and learning A minor or E major. Doing things like this will help you get comfortable with moving your hands up and down on the fret board, and this will make it easier to add chords to your repertoire.

Don't neglect your comfort when getting yourself set up to learn how to play the acoustic guitar. Not getting yourself a comfortable seat to practice in is a good way to put painful strains on your back and arms which will sabotage your efforts to master this instrument. You will want an armless chair so that you have the freedom of movement to play without banging your elbows, a straight back to the chair is also a good thing to look for. A proper chair with these features will go a long way to helping you stay comfortable and keeping up with your practice.
