dictionary3Interval - An interval is described as a difference in pitch from one tone to another, and intervals are most commonly measured as the difference between the lower tone and the higher tone.

Intonation - Intonation, in its most literal form, means either pitch or using pitch. One who speaks with intonation uses pitch variation to convey meaning. With music, describing pitch takes on a much more connotative meaning.

Jack - A jack is essentially the opposite of a plug, and in most cases is the part of the cord that plugs in to the musical instrument.

Machine Head - The machine head, at least when it comes to guitars and similar instruments, is the mechanism that is found at the headstock and that is responsible for tightening or loosening the strings gradually, allowing for them to be accurately tuned. This is achieved by a gear mechanism built in to the instrument's machine head.

MI - MI is a commonly used abbreviation for musical instrument, and is a broad term that is used to describe the musical instrument marketplace as a whole. In other words, terms like "MI market" and "MI store" are often used for this purpose.

Neck Through Body - This describes a neck joint that is used exclusively in semi-solid and solid body guitars, where the neck is an integral part of the body of the guitar, spanning the entire length of the instrument from the strap button on the bottom of the guitar to the headstock at the top of the neck.

Parameter - This is a factor determining a range of variables. There are many instances where parameters play a role in music.

Pick Guard - This is a device that is applied to the surface of a stringed instrument such as a guitar or bass in order to protect its finish from scratches that may occur when a pick scrapes across the top of the instrument during play.

Power Chord - A power chord is an interval that serves as a function of a major or a minor chord, consisting of only three pitches with one which is doubled at the octave level. Power chords are especially popular in rock music, punk music, hard rock ad metal.

Scale Length - In stringed instruments, the scale length is the distance between the nut and the bridge or the saddle, comprised of the total length of the vibrating portion of whatever string is being played or plucked in instruments like the guitar, the bass and the banjo.

Solid Body Guitar - This is one version of a guitar that is described as a guitar made from solid wood without any resonating airspaces within it, such as with an electric guitar.
