Acoustic Hybrids (Can Also Be Played Plugged-in)
December 9th, 2009 | Acoustic Musical Instruments, Guitars, Hybrid
Acoustic instruments are popular instruments to play, but some acoustic instruments do not produce a whole lot of sound on their own. The acoustic guitar, for example, does not produce a whole lot of sound on its own, which is why electric guitars were invented in the first place. Another alternative that is available for people who are interested in playing musical instruments is the hybrid acoustic guitar. Acoustic hybrid instruments are instruments that can be played acoustically but also when plugged in, in order to create a better sound. Not only do these instruments make playing music a lot easier by combining acoustic capabilities with electric capabilities, but they also add significantly to the repertoire of sounds that the instrument can create, creating a completely new level of capabilities in the process.
Acoustic hybrid guitars tend to be classified as small bodied electrical guitars that also have their own unique acoustic voice which is created by combining chambered and hollowed bodies with special acoustic sounding bridges and pickups. Acoustic hybrid guitars can also even have built in digitally modeled acoustic sounds.
The quality and the style of the sounds produced by these acoustic hybrid guitars can vary significantly, and their prices can vary significantly as well. If you have interest in purchasing an acoustic hybrid guitar you should shop around and check out as many different models as you possibly can. You should also look at models that are out of your price range just to see if they are what you are really interested in buying. Generally speaking, hybrid acoustic guitars and other instruments come at a bit of a compromise. They are not going to be able to completely replace a good electric guitar, nor will they be able to replace a good acoustic guitar, especially at the price range that most will come at. Still, they are a truly wonderful purchase for a wide variety of purposes, including creating a very large variety of different instantly accessible sounds, assuming you do not have a guitar tech available to hand you new instruments every time you are looking to create a new sound.
If you are interested in trying out an instrument that provides a completely new and exciting level of sound and musical enjoyment, then acoustic hybrid instruments like the acoustic hybrid guitar are well worth checking out. Just keep in mind that because they are combining acoustic technology with electric technology that the price you are going to pay will be higher than if you were to simply buy an acoustic instrument or an electric one. Still, if you are looking for an instrument with a completely new level of capabilities, and the guitar is your instrument of choice, then give serious consideration to the acoustic hybrid guitar as a viable addition to your instrument collection and musical repertoire.
