2 Ways to Learn Acoustic Guitar
November 21st, 2011 | Acoustic Musical Instruments, Guitars, Playing Tips
When people are first learning to play the guitar, the acoustic type is generally recommended over the electric type. The main reason for this is that the strings of an acoustic guitar are tougher, so they build calluses better, and help build finger strength. As for the methods by which you can learn to play the guitar, there are a good many options available. Below we shall have a look at the most common means of learning to play the acoustic guitar.
Method #1 - Taking Lessons
Taking lessons is by far the most likely means people will take to learn to play the guitar, and for good reason. Guitar lessons are generally done on a one on one basis and have a high degree of effectiveness. This is because the person giving the lessons is not just going to show you the correct form and technique, but can and will offer help and support along with the proper motivation. They will be there whenever you are stuck or are having problems getting stuck on the learning of a particular song or technique.
There are most definitely good things to be said about individual lessons, don't forget that there are some cons as well. These lessons will have a set schedule that they follow each week, so you will need to ensure that you will be able to attend each lesson. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are more costs than that of the tuition, travel time and the cost of gas or public transit applies as well. It can be possible to find a tutor that will come to teach you at home and possibly cut out the travel costs for you.
Method #2 - Courses Online
While individual lessons will provide a personalized experience, there are private lessons available online that will let you learn to play the acoustic guitar whenever and wherever you choose to. These courses make it easy to learn and build practice routines all from the comfort of your home and even in your pajamas if you want.
As well as the complete lack of stress over scheduling the lessons, the online courses will also lessen the stress to your wallet to pay for the lessons. And if you are willing to brave them, there are even some courses that provided their lessons free of charge. But always keep in mind that you get what you pay for and that for the most part the paid lessons are of a higher quality.
Don't just rush out and buy the first online acoustic guitar course you find, you'll want to keep in mind the following guidelines. You want to find a course that has video instructions and not just audio. This will make it much easier to understand how you should be placing your hands and the posture you will want to have in order to really play the guitar with skill.
